Continuing the countdown of my favourite movie scenes of all time…

Akira is an amazing film across the board. Story, visuals, message, importance, sound, Akira has it all. When I first saw the film I remember my love for it kicking in early with an eye catching opening sequence that I found so awesome. Not only did its violence rank high enough that my teenage self got a kick out of it, but the way its drawn was like nothing I’d seen before, and the shots of Neo-Tokyo were enough to provide me with screen grabs that occupied my desktop background for years.

This scene sets up the dystopian future perfectly and catapults you into the frenetic events of Akira in the best way possible. Unfortunately the scene below comes from the awful english dub, but you get the gist of how amazing it is.
