No, it’s not a re-release of the 2001 Sean William Scott comedy of the same name. This week’s Under the Radar pick of the week is the haunting, French drama Evolution.

When swimming, Nicolas encounters a pit of dead bodies. He confides to his mother what he has seen but she immediately dismisses it. Stoking his curiosity, Nicolas begins to uncover unsavoury sights in his little village which results in him soon being sent to a hospital where he and other young boys undergo various medical procedures.

The movie appears to pride itself on being hard to explain and hard to figure out. Just look at the trailer, it’s brilliant. The trailer gives you just enough information to catch your interest but refuses to reveal the plot. If the movie is as good as the trailer then we are in for something special. Evolution has already received praise for its aesthetic, earning Best Cinematography at the San Sebastián and Stockholm film festivals.

Evolution is in cinemas from 6th May.
